Our Vision

JONAH is a community of people living out our faith and values to collaboratively transform our society and bring about justice locally, regionally and nationally.  JONAH exists to help form congregations and strategic partners that empower ordinary people to effectively participate in the political, environmental, social and economic decisions affecting their lives.

What We Believe

We believe...that all people are created equal.  We value the individual worth of all, affirm equal opportunity for all, and abhor all forms of injustice flowing from racism, poverty and intolerance.
(Genesis 1,2)

We believe...in the value of sacred community over isolating individualism in all areas especially commerce, education, government and economics.  (Luke 6:29)

We believe...that social systems should protect the rights of all, and proudly contribute to the care and nurture of all including those with little power.  It is unacceptable to treat others as being less valuable simply because they are less powerful.  (Matthew 25:40)

We believe...that each person has the right and responsibility to make sacred community a reality and social systems should enable and encourage responsible behavior.  (Luke 6:31)

We believe...in the hope of open and honest relationships.  We value the role of peace over conflict yet realize the obstinate nature of power.  Thus we are unafraid to champion our values in the pursuit of justice.  (Micah 6)

We believe...in the value of unrelenting hope over numbing fear.  We hold that all people, as part of a sacred community, are intended by God to realize their own dignity, worth, power and voice.  (Ephesians 6:10)

We believe...in our duty to defy raw greed for the benefit of a few and we claim the value of sustaining abundance for all.  (John 10:10)

Therefore, JONAH has structured itself to effect the systemic changes necessary to advance the values we have claimed.  People with faith in a good and just God and people who share these values will organize through JONAH to bring about shared abundance, sacred community, unrelenting hope, equal opportunity and justice within our communities and throughout the nation.
